TIP OF THE MONTH
Sometimes you will find we repeat a topic, but that is because it comes up often with our customers. So we repeat them occasionally for newcomers to our newsletter.
Tacky Wax Fix: A common telephone call we field is that a wax finish feels tacky after several days. The problem is too much wax. Reminder: Our Clear Soft Wax is about the consistency of cold cream. Its application is similar. Little is more! So how to remedy tacky wax? It is counter intuitive – more wax. Working in small areas with lots of lint-less rags at hand, apply more wax in a 10X10 inch area generously. This will reactivate the original wax. The gently but firmly wipe away the excess so the surface does not feel greasy or damp. Then move onto the next area. Keep turning your rag or discarding it so you are using a clean area and not merely forcing that old wax back into your surface!
Prep Work – Like all good results, they start with adequate preparation. So please do clean your surface well before painting. Most surfaces can be cleaned with just dish soap and warm water then a rinse with clear and let dry. Any furniture or surface that has been exposed to airborne grease, particularly kitchen cabinets and furniture, need to be degreased. Be sure to clean again after the degreaser with soap and water then a rinse to make sure the chemicals of the degreaser are removed.
Long drive? But need paint now! -- If it is a couple hours round trip to our store, do the math and figure out what a trip just for paint is costing you in time and gas! We can ship to you and you can have next day delivery at your doorstep in Iowa and most adjacent states. We now offer flat rate shipping in those areas. If we can have your order packed by 2:30 pm Monday-Thursday, you will normally get it in 1 day (rarely 2 days) business days. Friday orders will not arrive until Monday. Weekend orders will arrive Tuesday.

PRODUCT HIGHLIGHTS
Let’s review various sealants available at our store for porous paint and when they might be used.
Annie Sloan’s Soft Waxes: Perfect for indoor application on furniture, walls and décor. Gives a durable finish that is easily cleaned and buffed to a sheen. Not appropriate for floors or outdoors. Water resistant, but not water-proof. Great feel! Wash up with soap and water or mineral spirits.
Annie Sloan’s Lacquer: Great for floors. Some people use it on cabinets. Not for outdoors. I use it over old metal to give it a slight sheen. Ask for instruction when it is used over porous paint that has been painted over varnish or raw wood. While the lacquer does not yellow paint, it is so strong it can pull up tandens from the underlying wood, causing yellowing or discoloration. Wash up with soap and water.
Artisan Enhancements Clear Topcoat Sealer: Exterior rated so this is waterproof. Matte finish. Soy based. Once again, while it will not yellow, it can pull up underlying tandens. May be used on floors, cabinets, furniture and more. Wash up with soap and water.

Class Size & Cancellation Policy: We maintain the right to refund your money or arrange for a different date if we do not have the 3-4 people necessary to make a class viable. If you are ill or weather prevents travel, you may reschedule to another date within six months of the date you originally scheduled. If your plans change, we need a two-week notice before the class date if you want to be rescheduled. Under two weeks, there is no refund but if your spot is filled we will allow you to reschedule, otherwise your fee is forfeited.
